Truda came to Australia in 1960 from Austria. After traveling through the Australian countryside, she fell in love with it’s rugged beauty, the spacious inland and the wonderful serenity of the coastline. It is the love for this country that inspired her to capture this beauty on canvas. Truda’s paintings give you a broad outlook into the Australian countryside, from our many different eucalypts to the life of the outback. She is fascinated by the outback with it’s old cottages, barns, country outhouses and homesteads. The contrast between the romantic lagoons and lakes, quiet waters and billabongs, roaring oceans and beaches, constantly give new impetus to her work. All her paintings reflect the love she has for this country. Truda also specializes in modern art where she can give free reign to her love for colours.
Truda has held many exhibitions all over eastern Australia and became well known under the name of D’Onofrio but in 1987 her husband Peter passed away. She married a long time family friend, John Ward and now includes that name as well. Truda enjoys traveling with her husband, John, gathering valuable material for her paintings. The search for subject matter has taken her through and around all the states of Australia. She takes great pride in her work and never fails to be amazed by the incredible beauty that this country has to offer.
Truda was delighted to be invited by the Austrian Government to mount a solo exhibition in her original homeland, Austria in 1990. This very successful exhibition ran for one month in the Art Gallery and was viewed by many prominent citizens who were very proud of the achievements of Truda, who had left her homeland so many years before. Truda titled the exhibition “Australian Impressions” as she wanted to bring a piece of Australia to Austria. Truda’s work can be found in private collections throughout the world. She has sold works to Austria, Hungary, Yugoslavia, Germany, Switzerland, Italy, France, Denmark, Holland, Sweden, Finland, North and South America, Canada, Japan, Chili, New Zealand and South Africa.
Truda is a pleasure to meet. Her warm and bubbly personality shines out and is reflected in her work. Whenever you are at one of her exhibitions, or in Tomakin near her studio, call in and feel free to make yourself known, and have a chat with her. Truda has used her talents many times to assist charities such as the Smith Family, HHELP (Help Handicapped Enter Life Project), Care, Miss Australia Quest, Queen of Canberra Quest, Cancer Support Groups, Combined Pensioners, Lions Club, Camp Quality. Her favorite is “Rally for Recovery” Started by Vera & Brian Entwistle, the original founders of Camp Quality.
Truda has been the President of The Batemans Bay Arts & Crafts Society for 2000 to 2002.
When Truda is not traveling producing paintings, you can view them at her own gallery “Truda’s Gallery.
