The route is a mixture of off road shared pathway and on road riding. The on road section is sealed except for the 8km return section down to the airport along the back of the beach. This gravel section is rough in places and has overhanging vegetation.

OPTION Extension to Tomakin |
9km return |
For experienced riders there is the option of riding on to Tomakin and visiting Melville Headland. This headland has great views north and south. This option involves heading up Pacific St to Annetts Pde where you turn right. When you reach the main road George Bass Drive turn right and head north to the turn off to Tomakin. When in Tomakin head for the ocean and eventually you will find the headland. George Bass Drive is being widened and will have reasonable shoulders by end of 2012, traffic speeds are high though and hence this is recommended for experienced cyclists. Return to Mossy Point by the same route |
|
OPTION Extension to Mogo |
18km return |
Again for experienced riders another option is to proceed towards Tomakin as above and take the turn to the west just before Tomakin. You will then be on the Tomakin Rd which will take you past the Mogo Zoo to the village Mogo where there are plenty of cafes. This road has less traffic but narrow shoulders hence is recommended for experienced riders. Return to Mossy Point by the same route. |
