Take a walk on the wild side of Eurobodalla.
With vast tracts of hinterland, National Park and State Forest there’s many places you’re likely to encounter wildlife. The rugged forested terrain of the Deua National Park is a haven for birds, wallabies, kangaroos, possums and bandicoots and the rare tiger quoll is also found in the park. Owls are common at night as they hunt for small marsupials. In Monga National Grove lyrebirds are often seen near the ancient plumwood trees of Penance Grove. Many of the old growth forests in the region are home to sooty and masked owls. In autumn the Banksia Walk at Burrewarra Point attracts a variety of nectar-eating birds. Kangaroos abound at South Durras and Murramarang National Park. Montague Island Nature Reserve, just nine kilometres off the coast of Narooma, is a haven for marine and animal life. The NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service manages the island and its wildlife, which includes the state’s largest colony of Australian and New Zealand fur seals. It is also one of the largest little penguin breeding sites in Australia and is home to a wide variety of birds such as peregrine falcons, crested terns and silver gulls. Large numbers of whales can also be seen in season from September to November. And then don’t forget to visit our zoo and animal park for extra special wildlife encounters. We highly recommend taking advantage of their daily feeding times and displays.
