Living in Eurobodalla

The Eurobodalla Shire Council serves a thriving community of 36,000 people, who have chosen to live on one of the most beautiful stretches of coastline in Australia.

The main towns and villages

Eurobodalla stretches from South Durras just north of Batemans Bay through to Moruya, Narooma and Tilba Tilba in the south.

Batemans Bay is located at the mouth of the Clyde River, at the junction of the Princes Highway and the Kings Highway to Canberra. It is a thriving and growing regional commercial centre, currently enjoying substantial investment in commercial and residential property. Batemans Bay is two hours drive from Canberra, and less than four hours drive from Sydney. Batemans Bay and the surrounding district population (Post Code 2536) in the 2006 Census was 17,270.

Moruya is a beautiful, historic rural town situated slightly inland on the Moruya River, less than 20 minutes drive south of Batemans Bay on the Princes Highway. The Moruya district population (Post Code 2537) in the 2006 Census was 10,278. Moruya is surrounded by dairy and beef cattle farms, and is the future growth area for the shire's light industrial land expansion. The North Moruya Business Park is expanding to meet the demand for light industrial and commercial floor space.

Moruya is also home to the Eurobodalla Shire Council administrative centre, the regional TAFE campus, and the Moruya District Hospital.

Narooma is situated at the southern end of the shire on the Wagonga Inlet, about 50 minutes drive south of Batemans Bay. Narooma is one of the most beautiful towns on the east coast, with magnificent beaches, the blue waters of Wagonga Inlet, and Montague Island Nature Reserve 9km off shore. Narooma is renowned for its climate and deep-sea fishing. Narooma and the surrounding district population (Post Code 2546) in the 2006 Census was 8,312.

Other popular locations in the region include Nelligen, Mogo, Broulee, Tuross Head, Montague Island and Bodalla.

The shire is serviced by a number of transport companies and daily flights into Moruya from Sydney and Melbourne. See REX Airlines for full service details and book on-line at www.rex.com.au

Living and Working in Eurobodalla

The clean environment and mild climate of Eurobodalla offers an attractive lifestyle for investors and our workforce.

The economy of Eurobodalla has been transformed in recent years from one based on the primary industries of dairying, forestry and fishing to an exciting and increasingly diverse economy dominated by tourism, retail, light clean manufacturing and service industries. Alongside this growth there has been an expansion in community, recreation and personal services, fuelled by population growth and developments in the tourism industry.

The shire is rich in natural assets - in fact over 70% of the region is either National Parks or State Forest.

A number of local publications are available at both Narooma and Batemans Bay Visitor Centres, including specific town brochures and booklets unique to our region.
