Take in spectacular coastal and lake views and feel the majesty and peace of the magical spotted gums as you ride through these forests, with only the sweet calls of the native birds to keep you company. Along the Old Coast Road it’s common to see lyrebirds. To find one of the best whale-viewing platforms in the area once at North Head go through the camp ground to the walking track.
ROUTE: Dur 1 - Spotted Gum TrailDISTANCE: 24 kmGRADE: easy at start then moderateVERTICAL ASCENT : 360mSUITABLE: Mountain bikes or hybrids
The 24km ride has an easy section at the start and becomes hilly in the middle section. The start is at the Durras Sports Ground. The route heads north through the village streets to the Durras Lake boat ramp, then along the lake foreshore along a track in front of the caravan park. It then heads back through the village streets to the ocean boat ramp. Next is a journey through the forest to North Head with its great views of the Tollgate Islands and Batemans Bay beyond.
The return follows a similar route back to the village.
