Sunshine Cove Beach

Approximately 5 km south of Batemans Bay

Snorkelling off the beaches and rocks around here is like having your own big aquarium to play in.

Only five kilometres south of Batemans Bay is Sunshine Cove Beach. A small picturesque cove the area is protected from southerly swells and is enclosed by two prominent headlands. It’s also a great location for mums, dads and kids keen to try some snorkelling on their family holiday in relatively calm waters.

Even though it’s a developed area, the residential development has remained in keeping with the bush surroundings of the beach and houses are well-screened. The beach is a mixture of pebbles and sand and is a real getaway close to town. There is a mixture of rocky reef and sandy bottom and seaweed beds. Novices and experienced snorkellers are likely to see endemic fish such as red morwong, luderick and bream as well as gropers, lobsters and abalone.

It’s a Habitat Protection Zone of the Batemans Marine Park, which means certain rules apply so please check the zoning plan available from most bait and tackle stores in the area.

Sunshine Cove Beach is 5 km south of Batemans Bay along Beach Road. There are no amenities at the beach but there is a small car park, which is accessed from Beach Road.
